The Oklahoma Stock Horse Association was started by a small group of people interested in promoting the philosophy of creating better horses and better horsemen in our area. The Oklahoma Stock Horse Association was established as a non-profit Oklahoma organization in August of 2009.
The purpose of this organization is to promote education for the western stock horse enthusiast. In addition to riding and training a stock horse, teaching rider knowledge and having skills to maximize a horse's trainability are important. We hope to promote correct performance and safety as well as offering affordable, fun, and standardized stock horse educational programs and competitions. Preserving the western tradition and heritage of working stock and ranch horses is key. We strive to encourage the use of standard rules for conducting and judging contests for the western all-around stock horse. Improving the quality of the versatile western stock horse as well as encouraging honesty, integrity, respect, sportsmanship, and family values is what OkSHA plans to achieve.
The Oklahoma Stock Horse Association approves competitions and offers 6 divisions based on the rider's experience & skill sets or the horses experience. Divisions include:
In addition to the approved clinic/show events, Oklahoma Stock Horse Association also holds clinics where interested persons can try out the events and improve their horsemanship skills.
